Open Source is a jazz ensemble that pursues creative music with a post bop emphasis. The term open source comes from the world of computer programming. An open source program is one that can be modified and distributed freely by anyone. This describes the band Open Source in that its members are a collective unit that have many diverse pursuits and are free to explore them in and out of the group.

Open Source the band came togehter in 2012 while founding members Seth Lewis and Kenyon Brenner were members of the Glenn Miller orchestra and the group served as an outlet for original compositions and a way to pursue classic and overlooked repertoire from the jazz canon.
