More than a vocalist, Basse’s voice has come to represent the jazz and blues of Kansas City. Since the turn of the century David has hosted The Jazz Scene and is the current host of Jazz Alive Overnight on Kansas Public Radio

Cartwright is  the musical director for critically acclaimed NPR show 12th Street Jump, carried in more than 100 cities.

Cartwright has performed and produced with numerous jazz luminaries including Eddie Harris, Christian McBride, Jeff Hamilton, John Clayton, and Kevin Mahogany. He has also performed for audiences in Africa, the Middle East, India, and Southeast Asia as part of the USIA/Kennedy Center Jazz Ambassador Touring Program.

Cartwright will join Basse in sharing some of the later’s latest release, The Hero and the Lover. A culmination of more than 40 years of a life dedicated to jazz, this album incorporates jazz and blues in an expression of powerful and undying love for art and music.

The New York band for this recording includes veteran bassist Curtis Lundy, pianist Richard Johnson, saxophonist Stacy Dillard, and drummer Neal Smith. Special guests on the project’s title cut include vocalist Carol Duboc and alto saxophonist Bobby Watson.

Basse and Cartwright will also perform at Dazzle Jazz June 16.
