Stranahan, a professional saxophone player and band leader in the Denver area for the past 33 years, has performed with notable local and national jazz musicians including Colin Stranahan, Eric Gunnison, Paul Romaine, Hugh Ragin, Jeff Jenkins and Bijoux Barbosa.

Stranahan’s newest group, The Jim Stanahan Little Big Band, is an 11-piece group featuring many of Denver’s top jazz players in a large group setting.

Performing locally on a regular basis, the group’s two releases on Tapestry Records have received national acclaim and airtime.

The driving force behind this ensemble is Stranahan’s original compositions and arrangements, which run the gambit of musical styles and rhythmic grooves related to jazz. Powerful horn-filled be-bop inspired lines alternate with outstanding soloists as well as a driving rhythm section.

A great musical variety is presented in each of this band’s performances.

Line-up: Stranahan (alto and soprano sax), Caleb Starbuck (alto sax),  Joe Anderies (tenor sax), Pete Lewis (tenor sax), Scott Handler (trumpet), Gabe Mervine (trumpet), Steve Morley (trumpet), Wade Sander (trombone), Juitin Adams (piano), Mike Abbott (guitar), Wilson Luallen (bass), and Mikje Marler (drums).
