interview with Jax executive chef Sheila Lucero
Jax Fish House and Oyster Bar has been a part of KUVO’s signature fundraising event “Live at the Vineyards” for several years. Executive chef Sheila Lucero visited “First Take with Lando and Chavis” with the story of Jax and a preview of their contribution to the feast at Balistreri Vineyards on August 9!
The 2014 wine tasting and gourmet feast is built around the musical theme “a New Orleans Rhythm Revue,” which calls for New Orleans flavor!
“We were named after a brewery in New Orleans (no longer operating), and the name stuck,” said Lucero, the daughter of a culinary artist who has been with Jax for years. ”I was a competitive soccer player, and when I couldn’t play any longer, I found the restaurant’s adrenaline a replacement for soccer.”
On the gourmet menu from JaxFish House: gazpacho consomme (perfect for a warm summer evening), and pickled shrimp and heirloom tomato pico. ”It’s a favorite of ours for the summertime. We get the tomatoes and lots of garden vegetables and fresh herbs, infuse the flavors, and strain it into something light and refreshing.”
