Combining the sounds of blues, gospel, modern classical and traditional jazz, the deeply talented Charles Mingus was an innovative composer, bassist, bandleader and recording artist who defined the hard bop era perhaps more than any other artist. From Ah Um and beyond: The Matt Smiley Quartet will be paying homage to the eternal coolness, creativity, and unrelenting moxy of Mr. Mingus on Friday nights through the end of November!

Matt Smiley is a bassist and composer based in Colorado’s Front Range. He has performed in a variety of musical situations including classical music, gospel, rock, funk, bluegrass, jazz, free improvisation, and 20th/21st century music. Smiley relocated from Virginia to Colorado where he received a master’s degree in music with an emphasis in jazz studies at the University of Northern Colorado. Fridays thru November

Supporting the musicians practicing their craft on our stage is important to us – we have an artist fee that ranges from $5 to $20 per person per night (for Artists in Residence) that is applied to all guest checks at the conclusion of an evening.
