The Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra (MJO), formed in 2002,  is one of Denver’s premier big bands.  They play a wide variety of music, from 1940’s swing up to today’s contemporary big band styles.

The MJO mission has always been to promote jazz education in the schools.  “MJO Presents” was born to support this mission and, through this program, MJO has been playing contemporary big band jazz at Dazzle two times a month for over 12 years and, at the same time, featuring different local high school jazz ensembles at every performance.  As a result, MJO has featured over 65 different high school bands, some more than 3 or 4 times each.  The goal was to expose high school musicians to the realm of possibilities available to them if they were to continue on with their craft.  Participating schools came from up and down the front range as far north as Ft. Collins, Loveland, Estes Park and Greeley AND as far south as Colorado Springs.  Included in the mix were even schools from Elko, NV and South America.

This performance is intended to honor Dazzle’s support of this program with MJO’s high energy, contemporary big band abilities and to feature three of “the kids” who participated in the program with their high school jazz ensemble who now happen to be full time members of MJO!  Don’t miss this event because it will give you hope that big band jazz is alive and well!
