National 8-Track Tape Day

This is  a day to listen to the great music of the 60s, 70s and part of the 80s, writes Apple Today.  But you’ll have to find some modern media to hear that music.  ”Because 8-track players are almost non-existent,” chimed in “First Take with Lando and Chavis” host Carlos Lando.

 

Frank Sinatra’s 8-track tape with Antonio Carlos Jobim is a collectors item.  With en estimated three to five copies in existence, it’s worth around $5,000.00.  Warner record executives ordered the destruction of 3,500 8-track copies because they didn’t want to hurt potential sales of Sinatra’s next project, “My Way.”

 

“Over the course of the past ten years, I’ve seen two of these, both of them on eBay. The one that sold highest fetched $4550 in pretty scuffed up condition, notes a 2011 post at the blog “8 Tracks Rock.” 

 

 

 

The doomed format was originally called the “Stereo 8,” developed by the Lear Jet Corporation for cars.
