New Music Monday premieres for week of Monday, October 19:

The multi-talented Puerto Rican trombonist, composer and bandleader Papo Vázquez returns with his sensational Mighty Pirates Troubadours. Their newest release is “Chapter 10: Breaking Cover,” aptly titled as this is the 10th recording as a leader for Papo whose birth name is Angel. As with his previous albums Vázquez injects Puerto Rican folklore and rhythms into the their brand of jazz that will have you moving and grooving.

Marshall Guilkes is another world renown trombonist currently a member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra as well as leading his own ensembles. His most recent offering is a piano-less trio-trombone, bass and drums titled “Waiting to Continue,” a reference to the current pandemic that has curtailed Marshall from touring as it has for other musicians and entertainers.

The popular trumpeter Takuya Kuroda releases his first album in over 4 years, “Fly Moon Die Soon” is a collection 9 songs spanning jazz, funk and fusion. Although Takuya has 5 previous sessions in his discography, this is his first self-produced one released on First World Records which has allowed to play most of the instruments on this recording.

Every Monday beginning at Noon, I debut the latest arrivals to KUVO Jazz, often ahead of their regularly scheduled release date. In addition to the music, I’ll provide a few tidbits about the artist in particular if it’s an new or up and coming artist.
