New music premiering on April 12, at noon on New Music Monday with host Arturo Gómez includes:

Greg Abate – “Magic Dance: The Music of Kenny Barron”
The sizzling sounds of saxophonist Greg Abate returns with perhaps his best recording of his proficient career. The highlight of this session is that the brilliant composer of all the songs, Kenny Barron is on piano with Dezron Douglas on bass and Jonathan Blake on drums. A sure choice to wind up on the end-of-year Top Album lists.

Berta Moreno & Afro-Jazz Soul Project – “Tumaini”
The U.S. debut of the Spanish saxophonist-clarinetist-guitarist from Madrid, Berta Moreno. Highly esteemed and popular in Spain and the Netherlands, Berta traveled to Kenya and absorbed the traditions of Kenyan music heard in her playing. Now living in New York, she debuts with a fine ensemble accompanying her that includes the alluring Guinean vocalist Alana Sinkëy.

John Hasselback III – “Entrance”
As the title suggests, the debut of upstart trumpeter John is an auspicious debut with Wayne Escoffery on sax, Steve Davis on trombone, Luques Curtis on bass among others. The Buffalo, NY native son attended Hartford, CT’s Hartt School of Music’s Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz where Denver’s own, Javon Jackson is the head of the jazz education department.

Every Monday beginning at Noon, I debut the latest arrivals to KUVO Jazz, often ahead of their regularly scheduled release date. In addition to the music, I’ll provide a few tidbits about the artist in particular if it’s an new or up and coming artist.
