“This week’s premiers include:

The highly anticipated debut of the UK based tenor saxophonist Nubya Garcia who has taken the UK jazz scene by storm since her emergence about 2 years ago. Nubya was raised in London and is of Guyanese heritage. Her debut is titled “Source” and is on the Verve label. She incorporates folkloric rhythms from Guyana in her music giving it an distinctly different but enjoyable sound of her original compositions.

Trombonist Matt Haviland’s most recent recording is “Something to Say.” It features a solid band, Vincent Herring-alto sax, David Kikoski on piano, Ugonna Okegwo on bass, and Jonathan Blake on drums with a couple of other fine guests as well. The songs include standards and originals.

Joe Farnsworth has been a busy in demand drummer for the past 10 years. He’s been recording and touring with a wide array of the finest names of jazz, now it’s his turn to lead a recording session. “Time to Swing” features Kenny Barron on piano and Peter Washington on bass with special guest Wynton Marsalis on trumpet.

Every Monday beginning at noon, I debut the latest arrivals to KUVO JAZZ, often ahead of their regularly scheduled release date. In addition to the music, I’ll provide a few tidbits about the artist in particular if it’s a new or up and coming artist.
