This week’s New Music Monday premieres include:

Baritone saxophonist Claire Daly returns with a swingin’ tribute to Rahsaan Roland Kirk. The Claire Daly Band homage to Kirk is more than just playing his one-of-a-kind music, it’s capturing his spirit. When Daly was an inspiring student of the sax, hearing the music of Rahsaan changed her life by Rahsaan’s energy and creativity. “Rah! Rah!” is filled with bright moments!!!

A talented young pianist makes her self-titled debut, “RINA.” This highly anticipated release by the NYC based Japanese-American, Rina has all the earmarks of being just the first in what should be a long-line of great music by Rina Yamazaki, after all, she placed runner up in the 2018 Ellis Marsalis International Piano Competition. Before that she arrived to Boston in 2015 to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music.

The popular Brazilian vocalist, Fleurine joins forces with some kick butt fellow Brazilian musicians as well as Chris Potter-sax/flute and the incredible Brad Mehldau on piano on her latest recording, “Brazilian Dream-blooms” Fleurine is the composer and lyricist for 8 of the 10 tunes on this album , she even arranged and produced the entire session featuring 1 song with strings and another with a full-blown horn section.

Every Monday beginning at Noon, I debut the latest arrivals to KUVO Jazz, often ahead of their regularly scheduled release date. In addition to the music, I’ll provide a few tidbits about the artist in particular if it’s an new or up and coming artist.
