This week’s highlights will include the following recordings and more, tune in on Monday, September 20, at noon with Arturo Gómez.

“Open World” – Chad Lefkowitz-Brown & Global Big Band
Tenor saxophonist and bandleader returns with his most ambitious project to date, 17+ musicians from 17+ countries of origin!! Add to the wonderment of this recording–each musician recorded their part(s) in isolation during the pandemic, then mixed and mastered to perfection by Dave Darlington under Chad’s supervision. Some of the featured soloists include Arturo Sandoval, Randy Brecker, Lionel Loueke, Bria Skonberg, Melissa Aldana, and others. Nine brilliant adaptations of very well-known songs. An amazing project!!!

“Life Lessons” – Marc Cary Trio
Washington DC native son, pianist Marc Cary put together this trio in his weekly curated late-night jam sessions in Harlem. The trio has been maturing into a well-polished gem since 2015 emphasizing a creative approach to their playing. Growing up in DC during the peak of the go-go music scene, Cary learned that music is more than just playing on stage, it’s about the shared experience with the audience. he has applied those life lessons to this recording.

“Major Influence” – Graham Dechter
Guitarist Graham’s third release as a leader was recorded before the pandemic but held back so that the quartet could tour again to play the music from their latest offering. An oh! what a quartet it is, Dechter on guitar is accompanied by Tamir Hendelman-piano, John Clayton-bass, and Jeff Hamilton-drums. This is another fabulous issue by Colorado’s own Capri Records out of Bailey. Seven of the 8 entries are composed and arranged by Graham.

Every Monday starting at Noon, I debut the latest arrivals to the KUVO Jazz library, many of them are played ahead of their official release date. In addition to the music, I’ll provide a few tidbits about the artist in particular if it’s a new or up and coming artist.
