New Music Monday presents its holiday music edition with these new additions to our library, tune in on Monday, December 5 at noon on Lunchtime! with Arturo Gómez!
After this annual holiday edition, New Music Monday will go into hibernation until Monday, January 9, 2023.
Bill Cunliffe Trio with Ralph Moore: “Christmas In the Dog House”
No stranger to KUVO Jazz listeners and members as well as to attendees of the Vail Labor Day Weekend Jazz Festival, pianist and educator Bill releases a swinging holiday album with a variety of selections from the traditional to the modern. Cunliffe features Dave Robaire on bass, Marvin “Smitty” Smith on drums, and on 3 tracks, the highly accomplished tenor saxophonist, Ralph Moore.
Hendrik Meurkens: “Christmas Vibes—Gold, Frankincense and Meurkens”
2022 has been a prolific year for harmonica player and vibraphonist Meurkens, he had 2 successful albums of his own and was a guest on a third recording. Hendrik has added to his busy year in the studio by launching his first collection of holiday music. Meurkens plays both vibraphones and harmonica backed by the Reid Hoyson Quartet.
Jane Monheit: “The Merriest”
Although she has had holiday single songs appearing on various compilations over the years, this is Jane’s first full-fledged Christmas album. She’s accompanied by a large ensemble that includes strings. One of the highlights is the duo between Monheit and John Pizzarelli on “That Holiday Feeling” which was popularized by Eydie Gormé and Steve Lawrence in 1964.
Every Monday starting at Noon, I debut the latest arrivals to the KUVO Jazz library, many of which are debuted ahead of their official release date. In addition to the music comments, I’ll provide a few tidbits about the artist in particular if it’s a new or up-and-coming artist.
