The following, among others I will be debut on Monday, May 3 at noon:
Jeremy Monteiro-Jay Anderson-Lewis Nash Trio – “Live at No Black Tie-Kuala Lumpur”
Jeremy Monteiro is a jazz pianist, singer, composer, and music educator. In his native country he was named “Singapore’s King of Swing” by the local press. He was awarded the Cultural Medallion in 2002. Jeremy has played at jazz festivals all around the globe and has accompanied jazz giants touring Singapore. This recording displays how swinging he sounds in concert.
Benito Gonzalez – “Sing to the World”
The Venezuelan pianist Benito grew up in Caracas listening to the only jazz station of the capital city absorbing all he could which he added to his Venezuelan folk music traditions he learned form his parents-both musicians. As a young man, Gonzalez relocated to New York to further his jazz studies and begin his professional career. For his latest offering he is joined by Christian McBride, Nicholas Payton and other stand out musicians.
Gary Smulyan-Ronnie Cuber – “Tough Baritones”
Two of the leading baritone sax players of today’s jazz scene team up to record a hellacious session with the formidable rhythm section of Gary Versace, Jay Anderson and Jason Tieman. This quintet serves up brilliant renditions of jazz chestnuts and a few originals as well, all with dual bari playing!
Every Monday beginning at noon, I debut the latest arrivals to KUVO Jazz, often ahead of their regularly scheduled release date. In addition to the music, I’ll provide a few tidbits about the artist in particular if it’s a new or up-and-coming artist.
