This Sunday, October 8, at 4 p.m., KUVO’s performance series “On Stage” features NEA Jazz Master Dr. Lonnie Smith, with Colorado-raised saxophonist Javon Jackson, recorded live in KUVO’s Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio!

Guitarist Dave Corbus and the late, great drummer Nat Yarbrough rounded out the quartet for that swinging session in August 2003.

Dr. Lonnie Smith, beloved as “The Turbanator,” was awarded the nation’s highest honor in jazz earlier this year when he was named “Jazz Master” by the National Endowment for the Arts.

It’s a cookin’ session, with the organist, the saxman and the guitarist trading licks, propelled by Yarbrough’s time-keeping.  It’s a special episode of “On Stage,” Sunday, October 8, afternoon at 4 p.m. only on KUVO Jazz.  Don’t miss it!
