A special Friday Night Residency series featuring the musical legacy of the “Jazz Crusaders” hard bop pioneers (and later fusion pioneers as the “Crusaders”) is performed by Pete Lewis and his Quintet. The Jazz Crusaders were influenced by many of the hard bop groups of that time period including Miles Davis, Art Blakey, and Horace Silver. They became the “Crusaders” in the period when jazz groups were experimenting with electronic instrumentation and funk/hip hop beats. They still stayed close to their roots of creative improvisation with well crafted tunes. In addition to Jazz Crusaders works, some original material by Pete Lewis and Adam Bartczak inspired by the Crusaders will be featured.

Saxophonist Pete Lewis has performed with the Joe Henderson Big Band, Natalie Cole, Tony Bennett, the Four Tops, the Temptations, Linda Ronstadt, Ben Folds Five, the Colorado Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra and more. He established the Colorado Saxophone Quartet performing classical and jazz compositions throughout the Western states. Pete has released two jazz CDs: Expeditions by the Lewis/Church Quintet and King of Hearts from his jazz-fusion ensemble, Polarity.

The Quintet: Pete Lewis – Sax, Adam Bartczak – Trombone, Patrick McDevitt – Bass, Justin Adams – Keys/Piano, Mike Marlier – Drums
