Today we had the pleasure of inviting Purnell Steen to stop by the station. He is a long-time friend of KUVO and known widely as the Historian of Five Points here in Denver. On The Morning Set, we talked about his upcoming Dazzle at Baur’s performance – The final Friday Lunch Bunch at Dazzle’s current location. This series has been ongoing for the past 12 years, going back to Dazzle’s original location on Lincoln. Dazzle Denver will be opening its doors August 4th at their new location on 1080 14th Street in the Denver Arts Complex.

Purnell Steen and the Five Points Ambassadors have spent over 30 years keeping Jazz alive in the legendary Five Points district and beyond, with regular performances all over the Front Range. In our conversation, he touched upon the band’s recent trip to Brest, France, Denver’s first Sister City and shared a bit about his latest project with Director Vohn Regensburger: The Longest Walk – a film about the life of legendary bassist and first cousin to Steen, Charlie Burrell.
