Longtime “crate divers” (DJs who spend long hours flipping through racks of old vinyl records) are enjoying some redemption these days. The arguments over the audio fidelity have been won by the
“analogs,” it seems. Records rule! And now, turntable manufacturers can say, “we’re back.”
Phillip Murray, Listen Up’s VP of marketing and e-commerce, visited “First Take with Lando and Chavis” to celebrate the glories of vinyl and talk about this week’s annual seminar series “Music Matters,” April 16-17, 2014 at the Denver location, 685 s. Pearl St., Denver 80209. Multiple 40-minute sessions begin at 5:00 pm each night. Sixteen industry leaders and company representatives will share their knowledge.
“We’re seeing tremendous growth in turntable sales,” said Murray. ”We’re selling streaming devices and turntables. CD player sales are way down. People are craving something physical. And frankly, it sounds better than CDs.”
Want more evidence that records are back? According to GottaGrooveRecords.com in Cleveland, there are now 16 vinyl record pressing plants in the US: in Dallas, Plantation, Fla., Detroit, California, N.Y., Ohio, Kentucky, Kansas and Nashville.
