Less than two years old at their marquee Five Points location, Rosenberg’s Bagels & Delicatessen was shut down by a fire on May 2, 2016.  Since then, investigators have determined the fire to be suspicious.  The body of Shane Richardson, 29, was found in the upstairs apartment.  His death has been ruled a homicide. (Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.)

Rosenberg’s owner Josh Pollack visited the KUVO morning show “First Take with Lando and Chavis” with the latest on the community’s response, their plans to re-open, and what they’re doing in the meantime.

“The local community and especially the restaurant community has shown such an outpouring of support.  It’s really been amazing,” said Pollack.  ”Because of community support, and insurance, we’ll be able to come back stronger than ever.”

Severe damage to the back-of-house (oven, walk-in cooler, etc.), plumbing, electrical and structural damage pushes out Rosenberg’s reopening to at least three months.

The 1898 building was most recently refurbished with the help of a grant from the City of Denver’s Economic Development Office ”Welton Street Design Challenge,”  co-written with longtime Five Points landowner Dr. Renee Cousins King.  Adjacent businesses and apartments were not affected by the fire. “These buildings have seen a lot.”

The Rosenberg’s crew is hustling some “pop-up” events around town: Wed. 5/18 at Los Chingones, Pollack will guest chef some smoked salmon tacos, they’ll be in a booth at the Five Points Jazz Festival this Saturday 5/21, and The Source indoor farmers market May 29. In-the-meantime events  at  will be posted at Rosenberg’s Facebook page.
