Su Teatro Cultural & Performing Arts Center presents “Chicanos Sing the Blues” – a returning audience favorite exploring the connection between Chicano music and Rhythm and Blues.

Featuring more than 30 songs, the play moves easily between corridos, boleros, huapangos, oldies and heart-wrenching blues. While maintaining a strong connection to the legends and roots of Chicano music, “Chicanos Sing the Blues” explores the influence of African-American interactions on Chicano culture.

Paying tribute to the Chicano music lexicon legends – who are often overlooked by the mainstream – the play includes the songs of Lola Beltran, Lydia Mendoza, Ritchie Valens, Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs, Lalo Guerrero, Jose Alfredo Jimenez, Freddy Fender, Randy Garibay and more.

“Chicanos Sing the Blues” runs June 11-27, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $20 general admission and $17 for students and seniors, special group rates are available.
