“When my Mom passed, she left me her guitar…it remains my most prized instrument. My first teacher was renowned bassist Carol Kaye, that’s a pretty good start! Mom saved up money to buy my first Bass guitar, it was hard-earned, and she saw to it I got lessons from Miss Kaye.

Laura Nyro was one of Mom’s friends, she was like an aunt to me. I married a trombone player God bless her soul. My sister Kathy is a virtuoso on the autoharp. My long-term band Coyote Poets was always comprised of women by half.”

Andy O’ will play poetry and jazz by women throughout Women’s History Month from the International Sweethearts of Rhythm to Artemis.

“I remain a fan, supporter, and true believer of the magic women bring to music. I hope that doesn’t seem like bragging because…I am not worthy. Well, worthy enough to pay homage to women on The Nightside.”

“My favorite poets are women. Jennifer Michael Hecht, Lori Gomez, Moor Mother, aja monet, Jayne Cortez, Nikki Giovanni, Maya Angelou, and Mary Oliver to name a few. My favorite pianists all, are women. Having all this talent on my show is not enough…none of us would be here without the women who bore us. A month hardly seems enough.”

This ain’t no he-man women haters club. It’s the Nightside honoring women.
