It’s the last Sunday in April and we continue with our ongoing celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month and National Poetry Month on the Nightside.

Poetry and Jazz have been roommates since the Harlem Renaissance, continuing with the Jive of Babs Gonzales, Dizzy Gillespie, and Oscar Brown through the Beat movement. Whose practitioners were Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg with a backdrop of Bebop into Free Jazz and Free Verse up to Hip Hop and its relatives ancient to the future. The Nightside is the ongoing immersion of these two art forms.

KUVO has shown a particularly staunch and strong backbone in its ongoing support of this longtime Sunday night staple. We bring you Coltrane and Lady Day, we bring Gil Scott Heron and we bring the Last Poets. We bring the humor of Ken Nordine and Lord Buckley and the deep soul of Maya Angelou Jayne Cortez and Nikki Giovanni with music ascending into words.

Tune in on Sunday nights and join Andy O’ on The Nightside at 9 pm.
