We begin another year of New Music Monday with trumpets galore…..Gabriel Mervine  releases his first as a leader, People,  on Denver’s own Synergy Music label. He relocated to the Front Range from New Jersey to pursue his music studies, after graduating from UC-Boulder,  Mervine has impressed the music community with his quality playing in a wide variety of styles. Another Garden State trumpet player also debuts as a leader, Freddie Hendrix has been one of the most in demand trumpeters on stage and in studio for the past several years so we’re pleased to premiere his Jersey Cat recording on the Sunnyside label.  Our 3rd trumpet led debuting album is by 2 trumpeters reuniting for their 2 CD, the Bronx’s own Ray Vega and Seattle’s own Thomas Marriott team up again for their Return of the East West Trumpet Summit on which they’re accompanied by George Colligan on the B 3 organ and Matt Jorgensen on drums.

We also will feature new recordings by The U.S. Army Blues Band recorded Live at Blues Alley in the nation’s capital,  the veteran pianist Renee Rosnes returns with Written in the Rocks featuring the Galápagos Suite. Also on tap, a tribute to Cal Tjader-Blue Tjade– by vibraphonist Mike Freeman and Zona Vibe. One of the highlights to begin sweet 2016 is the return of Dr. Lonnie Smith-“The Turbinator” to his first label, Evolution is Smith’s first session for Blue Note in 45 years.

We’ll  complete the hour with a cupla other new arrivals but wait!, there’s more!! Due to the quantity and quality of the newest releases to begin the year, we will have feature more new releases on the Ruby Tuesday edition of Lunchtime at the Oasis.
