This week’s Vinyl Vault is from multi-sax man Arnie Lawrence and his band Treasure Island. The album was recorded in 1979 and released in 1983 on Doctor Jazz Records. Produced by Bob Thiele, the album features outstanding performances from Tom Harrell on trumpet and flugelhorn. Also in the band was Badal Roy, a veteran of Miles Davis’ bands, on tablas. Two other percussionists plow a deep groove and Lois Colin on harp evokes Alice Coltrane’s sound.  The album features several tunes that were improvised by the group in the studio which ebb and flow and coalesce into infectious jams. Don’t miss this underappreciated gem on the Vinyl Vault with host Geoff Anderson this Tuesday, December 4 at 8:30 on KUVO Jazz.
