Drummer Buddy Rich will provide the Vinyl Vault feature this week with his 1974 album “The Last Blues Album, Vol. I” released on the Groove Merchant record label. Rich was a prolific talent, and this was the fourth album he released in 1974 alone. It was also one of about 50 albums he released under his name. He appeared on dozens more as a side man.

Besides Rich’s propulsive drumming, the album put organist Jimmy McGriff in the spotlight. Between those two, they laid down a multitude of blues grooves. They were supported by George Freeman on guitar, Illinois Jacquet on sax, Kenny Barron on piano and Bobby Cranshaw on electric bass.

Join Geoff Anderson on Tuesday, October 3, at 8:30 pm for the Vinyl Vault on KUVO JAZZ for Buddy Rich and some blues.
