This week’s Vinyl Vault will feature Frederic Hand’s Jazzantiqua. Mixing Baroque and Renaissance music with jazz yielded a unique sound on this 1986 recording, although Claude Bolling and Paul Winter come to mind. Hand plays guitar, but also lute and vihuela. Jane Ira Bloom is featured on soprano sax. As with the music itself, the other instrumentation mixes the modern with the ancient. You’ll hear piano, flute, recorder, krummhorn, double bass, and percussion. Join Geoff Anderson on the Vinyl Vault, Tuesday, July 10 at 8:30 on KUVO Jazz.
