This week on the Vinyl Vault, it’s an all-star jam session from 1978, “Live at Rick’s Café Americain.” Rick’s was a jazz nightclub in Chicago. The session was originally planned as a Joe Venuti date, but he passed away just a couple of weeks before the planned recording session. The remaining players went ahead with the recording and turned in spirited performances. The album features Red Norvo on vibes, Urbie Green on trombone, Buddy Tate on saxophones, Dave McKenna on piano, Steve LaSpina on bass and Barrett Deems on drums. Check out the Vinyl Vault with Geoff Anderson Tuesday evening, August 28 at 8:30 pm on KUVO Jazz.
