This week’s Vinyl Vault pays tribute to the late McCoy Tyner by featuring a live album from 1978, “Passion Dance,” recorded live in Japan. Two tracks feature Ron Carter on bass and Tony Williams on drums, but the rest are solo pieces displaying the unmatched firepower of 1970s era Tyner, unadulterated by any extraneous instruments. “Passion Dance” was one of many Milestone releases to feature Tyner at the height of his considerable powers. KUVO doesn’t have a copy of this remarkable album, but the Vinyl Vault does and you can hear it with host Geoff Anderson on Tuesday, March 10, at 8:30pm on KUVO Jazz.
