This week’s Vinyl Vault goes back to the 1940s, with the help of updated technology. “The Direct Disc Sound of the Glenn Miller Orchestra” was recorded in 1977 with direct-to-disc technology that provided the highest fidelity achievable before the advent of digital technology. The band was the official touring group sanctioned by Glenn Miller Productions, Inc. and had been playing the original Miller arrangements nightly for quite some time before the recording session. The result was a dramatic you-are-there sound coupling the old favorites from the Glenn Miller book with up dated fidelity for an exciting blast from the past.
