This month’s CD-of-the-month on KUVO is “Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano – Symphonic Arrangement” by Steve Barta and Hubert Laws. It’s a reworking of the landmark “Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano” by Claude Bolling and Jean Pierre Rampal which was recorded in 1975. That album was an enormous success and, as all enormously successful albums do, it resulted in several follow-up suites by Bolling. This week on the Vinyl Vault, we’ll hear a few tracks from one of those follow-ups, 1981’s “Toot Suite.” This one featured Bolling collaborating with classical trumpeter Maurice Andre. The album continues the melding of Baroque music with jazz, all played with the highest level of virtuosity. Check out the Vinyl Vault, Tuesday at 8:30 on KUVO/KVJZ/
