Get ready to boogie, bop your head, snap your fingers and tap your foot, as we swing to a spontaneously recorded set, led by Hammond B-3 master, Jimmy Smith, “Off The Top.”  Join host Mike Wulfsohn next Monday night, August 26 for “Wulfie’s Wax Museum,” on the Monday Night Beat. This vinyl was released in 1982 on the short-lived “Musician” subsidiary of Elektra Records, offering very high quality recording and mastering.

Jimmy is backed up by some impressive buddies: George Benson, Stanley Turrentine, Ron Carter, and Grady Tate. The session came together spontaneously on June 6, 1982, with one day’s notice and no rehearsal. His 85th (yes, eighty-fifth) recording as leader, this was Jimmy’s most popular LP, reaching #5 on the Billboard Jazz Charts, and you’ll hear why.

Let’s get together for a swing jam! Tune in Monday at 8 pm for “Wulfie’s Wax Museum” on the next Monday Night Beat, on KUVO Jazz.
