Join host Michael Wulfsohn tonight for “Wulfie’s Wax Museum,” on the Monday Night Beat, as we give a nod to alto saxophonist, flutist, and internationally recognized photographer, Sadao Watanabe. We’ll listen to his 42nd album as a leader, “Orange Express.” Recorded in 1981 on the CBS-Columbia Label, this album shows Sadao’s continuously progressive career metamorphosis from the early ‘60s Bop, to Latin, Jazz Fusion, and into ‘80’s Electro-Funk Fusion with this release. Now 85 years old, Sadao, then aged 49, is backed up by an all-star second line, including George Benson, Bobby Broom, Marcus Miller, Eric Gale, Dave Grusin, and friends. If you like ‘80s Electro-Funk Fusion, then you’ll want to check out this vinyl! Tune in tonight, Monday, January 7 at 8 pm for The Monday Night Beat, on KUVO Jazz.
