As we begin to move towards the Fall, the music keeps on coming. During this week, for example, you can catch David Amram, along with singers Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kendra Shank and Katie Thiroux (who is also a strong bassist). Amram not only keeps the beat going on multiple instruments, he is also a living symbol of the Beat Generation. And on Wednesday, he's at Dazzle, 1512 Curtis, in a concert sponsored by MAS Eclectic at 7:30 p.m.

All About the Singers | Norman Provizer's Jazz Notes

Jan 12, 2018

This week it’s all about singers as both Tierney Sutton and Diane Schuur come to town.  First up is the LA-based and Wisconsin-born Sutton who released her first album in 1998. Sutton is a talented vocalist who simply bills herself as part of the Tierney Sutton Band along with pianist Christian Jacob, drummer Ray Brinker and bassists Kevin Axt and Trey Henry.

Jazz Speaks

When tenor saxophonist Ravi Coltrane performed at Dazzle in its old Lincoln Street location, the pianist in his quartet was Glenn Zaleski. The only other time I had heard the Massachusetts-born pianist live was when he appeared in Denver as part of the cooperative trio Stranahan/Zaleski/ Rosato. On Wednesday, the S/Z/R trio (that has two CDs out on the Denver Capri Records label), is back in town.

La Stampa

This week we get to ring out the old and ring in the new. If you want to go out and celebrate in a jazzy vein, there are a number of options. At Dazzle, 1512 Curtis, you can get ready for 2018 accompanied by the blues with the Sammy Mayfield Band. Mayfield is on stage on Sunday, New Year’s Eve, at 6 and 9 p.m. and the 6 p.m. show is listed as sold out (303-839-5100).
