Born on May 26, 1926 in Alton, Ill. outside East St. Louis, Miles Dewey Davis grew up to become a jazz icon. He came of age in the 1940s as an in-demand jazz trumpeter, but his bands and other innovations are credited with shaping jazz (and fashion, and culture) through the 2oth century. His album “Kind of Blue” is considered the best-selling jazz album of all time.

A caller to KUVO might ask, “please play some Miles Davis.” To which we will reply “WHICH Miles Davis?”  The young bopster?  The modalist of the mid-late 1950s? The electronic fusion Miles of the 1960s and 70s? The hip-hop Miles of the 1980s and early 90s?

Listen in! We’ll touch on all of these expressions of Miles throughout the day on KUVO Jazz, your Oasis in the City!
