KUVO’s Carlos Lando had a quick phone conversation with NEA Jazz Master Eddie Palmieri, as he prepares for his November 9, 2019 engagement at the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins. The octogenarian Palmieri is as busy as ever, with a residency in Baltimore, newly commissioned works, and club and concert dates around the U.S.

“I learned from Chocolate Armteros the Cuban trumpet player that after 50, you start counting by one again. So I will be 33 years old this December,” said the ebullient Palmieri.

Lando and Palmieri collaborated on the NPR syndicated series “Caliente: Latin Jazz with Eddie Palmieri.”
