The April edition of KUVO’s High School & Collegiate Series features the MSU Denver Roadrunner Faculty Quintet on Monday, April 8 at 5 p.m. on KUVO’s YouTube channel.

The Roadrunner Quintet is a group featuring accomplished members of the Jazz and American Improvised Music (JAIM) department faculty at Metropolitan State University of Denver. With deep focus on sculpting and performing exploratory original music, JAIM includes formidable pianist/vocalist Dawn Clement, as well as one of DownBeat Magazine’s “Top 25” trumpeters of his generation Shane Endsley, versatile guitarist Dave Devine, Colorado-bred bassist Patrick McDevitt, and dynamic, interactive drummer Dru Heller.

For this KUVO performance, the Roadrunner Quintet expands to a sextet with saxophonist Sam Williams. Sam is a saxophonist and music educator currently residing in Boulder, Colo. Experienced in various music styles, Sam performs regularly in jazz venues and concert halls throughout northern Colorado and beyond.

Drawing inspiration from their strong foundation and wide-open potential of stylistic cross-pollination, The Roadrunner quintet drives improvised music forward with a fresh, interdisciplinary approach. The MSU-Denver Roadrunner Quintet also performs on May 1 at 800 Kalamath.
