The Vail Jazz Headliner Tent series has concluded for 2021, but KUVO producers were there to capture the performance of one of the most important and entertaining vocal groups in the nation.  Tune in to KUVO’s performance series “On Stage” for an evening with Ranky Tanky, Saturday, September 11, at 10 pm and Monday, September 13 at 7 pm.

Ranky Tanky (a Gullah phrase for “get funky” or “work it”) are five lifelong friends from Charleston, South Carolina who have established themselves as passionate global ambassadors for the vocal traditions originated by African Americans in the coastal South during slavery that are kept alive through the present day. This Grammy Award-winning, Charleston, SC-based quintet, performs timeless music born from the Gullah culture of the southeastern Sea Islands.  Their repertoire includes playful game songs, heartbreaking spirituals, and delicate lullabies. The members of Ranky Tanky are Quentin Baxter (drums, percussion), Kevin Hamilton (bass), Clay Ross (guitar, vocals), Charlton Singleton (trumpet, vocals), and the classically -trained Quiana Parler (vocals).

Enjoy the roots of jazz like you’ve never heard before with Ranky Tanky, featured on the next episode of “On Stage,” hosted by Susan Gatschet, Saturdays at 10 pm and Mondays at 7 pm. Only on KUVO JAZZ.
