Kutandara fuses ancient African music traditions with indie-pop, rock, jazz, gospel, classical, and world folk influences. Kutandara recently brought on Zimbabwean drummer Blessing ‘Coach Bled’ Chimanga. He is a producer, educator, and content creator. He is passionate about sharing…

June 13 @ 7:00 pm
Levitt Pavilion Denver 1380 West Florida Avenue
Denver, CO 80223

On his second album, The Fatalist, Carl “Buffalo” Nichols does things with the blues that might catch you off guard. There’s 808 programming, chopped up Charley Patton samples, washes of synth. There’s a consideration of the fullness of the sonic stage and the atmospherics of the music that can only come with a long engagement with electronic music. But this is no gimmicky hybrid or attempt to turn the blues into 21st century music by simply dressing it with skittering…

Sunny War

June 20 @ 7:00 pm
Levitt Pavilion Denver 1380 West Florida Avenue
Denver, CO 80223

Sunny has crafted a set of songs that draw on a range of ideas and styles, as though she’s marshaling all her forces to get her ideas across: ecstatic gospel, dusty country blues, thoughtful folk, rip-roaring rock and roll, even avant garde studio experiments (like the collage of voices that closes “Shelter and Storm”). She melds them together into a powerful statement of survival, revealing a probing songwriter who indulges no comforting platitudes and a highly innovative guitarist who deploys…
