interview with Daniel Salazar, clip from “Create Option C”

The XicanIndie Filmfest XVI – Latino World Cinema begins this evening at Su Teatro Cultural and Performing Arts Center, 721 Santa Fe, Denver.  Festival director Daniel Salazar visited “First Take with Lando and Chavis” with clips and details of the  50 animations, documentaries, shorts and features showing at the 16th edition of the festival.

“We’re really experiencing a renaissance of filmmaking through Latin America, Mexico and the U.S.,” said Salazar.   “It’s refreshing to break out of the Hollywood bubble.”
Pronounced “Chi-cahn-indee,” the use of the Pre-Columbian “X” also gets the film fest to the bottom or the top of most lists.
A coalition of Latino film festivals have coordinated their plans to produce events all on this same weekend, says Salazar, in Buenos Aries, Peru, New York, Houston, San Francisco, Seattle and Denver.
As for star power, Lourdes Colon and Esai Morales, who documented her successful, alternative treatment for a cancer diagnosis, appear in person Sunday night, April 6.  This feature also has a clip from Colon’s documentary “Create Option C.”
The line-up, and links to trailers are at the festival website, www.suteatro.org/xicanindie-film-festival-xvi/
Music on this feature came from the YouTube trailer for the Peruvian music film Sigo Siendo (I am still Kachkaniragmi).
