Since 2014, Pathways To Jazz (a program of the Boulder County Arts Alliance) has awarded nearly 100 grants to jazz musicians for new, recorded works. More than 70 CD projects have been produced so far, many of which are heard on KUVO Jazz. The 2023 round of grant applications opened this morning (May 1), and it only took 15 minutes to receive the limit of 40 submissions. As KUVO Jazz Community Producer Abi Clark said, “The hustle game is strong here (in Colorado).”
And a post script to our recent centennial celebration of “El Rey” Tito Puente. The connoisseur label Craft Recordings (Craft Latino) is taking pre-orders for a deluxe reissue of 1985’s “Mambo Diablo” with special guest George Shearing. It comes in 180-gram vinyl or HD digital, and a shirt if you want it. Official release is set for May 26.
