There’s a local TV lawyer who boasts “He’s a lawyer AND a doctor.” Now we have a jazzman in town about whom we can say, “He’s a musician AND a doctor.”

Harry Drabkin studied and taught music at the Berklee College of Music in the early 1970s but turned his attention to medicine for the next four decades, graduating from the University of Kansas and specializing in hematology and oncology in South Carolina until his retirement and relocation to Denver in 2017.

“Doc” Drabkin brings with him an inspired tenor saxophone sound, and a stellar ensemble of Denver’s finest musicians: Eric Gunnison at piano, Mark Simon at bass and Todd Reid at the drum kit. Their repertoire of feel-good jazz standards is just what the doctor ordered.

The Harry Drabkin Quartet performs at Nocturne Jazz and Supper Club on Wednesdays, November 8 and 15, 2023.
