South High School’s “The Rebel Jazz Band” is this month’s High School / Collegiate Series Studio Club performance on Tuesday, May 7 at 7 to 8pm. The Rebel Jazz Band is a full big band and jazz combo program that is opened to students at Denver South High School on an auditioned basis. The Rebel Jazz Band has long been one of the top ensembles at Denver Sough High School and one of the few full big bands in Denver Public School. Comprised of 23 students from Freshmen to Seniors, the Rebel Jazz Band plays a wide variety of jazz styles ranging from Basie and Ellington to Snarky Puppy and Tower of Power. The Rebel Jazz Band performs throughout the year at concerts, festivals, and competitions, and they have performed on KUVO Jazz Radio and at Dazzle Jazz Club. Members of the Rebel Jazz Bands have auditioned for all state ensembles, participated in the Denver Citywide Honors Band with multiple players holding principal positions, and several members currently perform with community groups, collegiate honors bands, and with the Denver Citywide Marching Band.
