The Dexter Payne Quintet performs LIVE from KUVO’s Bonfils-Stanton Performance Studio on Thursday, July 27 at 7:00 p.m.

Award-winning clarinetist Dexter Payne brings his quintet to KUVO in advance of an upcoming album and video. His U.S. career began in the 1970s, most notably touring with the Lionel Young Band. Inspired in part by guitarist Mitchell Long, he fell in love with Brazilian choro and made his first trip to Brazil in 1997 where he recorded with Beth Carvalho and Thiago de Mello.

The Quintet started as a quartet in 2005 with Bill Kopper and Raoul Rossiter, soon adding Dave Willey (Hamster Theatre), and adding Grammy-winning Venezuelan pianist Victor Mestas in 2013. The quintet’s albums include “Pra Voce” (Dexofon Records, 2014) and “Jazz For All” (2018). Don’t miss this exciting presentation of contemporary Brazilian sounds, as well as traditional examples of choro jazz and jazz forro.

KUVO Studio Club members, be sure to RSVP when you receive the invitation. Space is limited.
