The KUVO Studio Club welcomes The Matt Skellenger Group to the Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio on Friday, April 26 at 3 to 4 pm. The Matt Skellenger Group’s instrumentation is a unique mixture of acoustic instruments that are centuries old (tabla, ghatam, cajón, trumpet, trombone, drums, conch shell), with modern electric instruments and effects (electric bass, pedal steel guitar, effects pedals). The group is Matt Skellenger-electric bass, Adam Bartczak-trombone and conch shell; Dave Miller-drums, ghatam, and tabla; Matt Reid-trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn and effects, Andy Skellenger – tabla, cajón, and udu; Glenn Taylor-pedal steel guitar.
The Matt Skellenger group is excited to release their 4th studio album entitled “Vitality” on April 26, 2019. This album features 9 new original tunes composed by Matt Skellenger. The music is a blend of jazz, world music, and fusion featuring the incredible musicians listed above. The group is celebrating the release of the new album with a concert at Dazzle in Denver on Saturday, April 27 at 7 pm.
Skellenger’s music is performed in a variety of formats: solo bass, duo, trio, quartet, and the full band(sextet). He has always been an exception to the rules. By combining forward-thinking creativity, progressive techniques, and natural musicality, and displays a uniquely identifiable sound.
Born and raised in Denver, CO., Matt has been composing, performing, and recording in the Front Range for 26 years.
