In 2011, saxophonist Dave Liebman, who is in town as a featured guest with saxophonist Keith Oxman’s group at Dazzle on Friday, joined the ranks of the National Endowment of the Arts Jazz Masters. Born in Brooklyn, Liebman founded a co-operative of young players that became part of the New York loft scene. And before long the saxophonist found himself part of drummer Elvin Jones’ Jazz Machine.

Popular music is all about what’s new. Quality is measured by age. The newest of the new is best and the quality decays quickly. It has a half-life shorter than a modern attention span. (Is there a relationship here?) It may be that music doesn’t go from good to bad as it ages, it just becomes irrelevant. No self-respecting, trendy cool kid would ever be caught listening to anything out of date. There are always exceptions, of course; the occasional iconoclast that makes an affectation out of listening to Billie Holliday or the Monkees or even REM.

Jason just recorded his second full-length album in 2015 called New Chapter and his first recording Mountain, Move, made #4 on the iTunes Jazz Charts list in its first week of release and earned its way onto the Best Recordings of 2013 list from by C. Michael Bailey.

MaryLynn Gillaspie & Her Stinking Hot Band will perform at Dazzle on Wednesday, September 12 at 6:30 pm. MaryLynn was a founding member of the Grammy-nominated vocal jazz group, Rare Silk. The group got their start in Boulder, CO. Their very first album, New Weave flew to the top of the Billboard Jazz charts and received 2 Grammy nominations. MaryLynn and the group toured the world singing in the US, Europe, and Japan. Rare Silk received acclaim working alongside artists such as Miles Davis, Branford Marsalis, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman, and opening acts for Spyro Gyra and BB King.

The Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra performs new music from their CD recording project of Stevie Wonder favorites, “Overjoyed.” The CJRO is Colorado’s premier professional jazz ensemble. Wilson's multifaceted career reached from the swing era of the 1930s to the diverse jazz sounds of the 21st century. Born in Shelby, Mississippi on September 4, 1918. Died on September 8, 2014, in Los Angeles, California.
